Wada documentary

The documentary about Wada should be understandable to all viewers, not just those who know about Cardano and Project Catalyst.

It’s goal is to enlighten and inspire people. Both in Africa and around the world.

With this proposal we will create a 30 minute documentary covering the following projects / topics:

  • Catalyst funded proposals covering Wada’s core pillars of:
  • Infrastructure provision (highlighting the physical and virtual Wada hubs on the ground in Africa and the Diaspora)
  • Education (Wada's events and education initiatives)
  • Solutions and dApp Creation.
  • Innovative Wada projections for the future will also be covered

Raising awareness about Cardano related projects is the direct goal of this challenge, so in my opinion this project is a good fit.

Wada is a resource sharing network connecting people all over Africa and the Diaspora to IT, human, and financial resources to make dreams come true. Wada has been working to promote Cardano throughout Africa and has gained a lot of popularity in the Cardano ecosystem. Exposing their projects through film will add more visibility to the great work they are doing and will inspire others to join.

Access to filming in general, forming a crew in Africa might be difficult. We need to find the right people to cooperate with.

The core challenge here is to contact people on the ground in Africa and develop a sustainable workflow suitable for all involved.

We will mitigate this risk by working directly with the Wada hubs (especially in Cameroon and Ghana) to film on the ground, and to assist with local logistics. Through the Cameroon hub, we already have made contacts with local film crews, and acquired some basic equipment to start filming. The Ghana team also has a passion in this realm and have highly skilled graphic designers and connection to arts and theatre professionals.

We have broken down our plan into 3 stages:

PRODUCTION / POSTPRODUCTION / DISTRIBUTION

Production

The plan is to film in Africa. We plan to follow and document Wada's work in progress in the region. For this we are in the process of selecting a crew and developing a suitable workflow.

We have already been gathering on-the-ground footage such as: Interviews, photos and film shots showcasing some of the work being done.

Postproduction

Petr S. and “adatruth” project have a small postproduction studio based in Prague, Czech Republic. We are capable of delivering a broadcast quality programme. So all the editing would be done here + sound design, voiceover if needed and final mastering.

Language: French localization

So far, the short videos done for wada have mostly been in English, however, West and Central Africa are highly French is dominant, so we plan to have a French version as well. Wada's team has a mix of bilingual members as well as professional translators, to make this task very feasable.

Distribution

First stage is online distribution, YouTube channels, organically to the viewers. (We might need to hire a specialist for this). The most desirable goal would be broadcasting on TV or film festivals.

Timeline:

Filming: May to July 2022

Editing: July and August 2022

Additional postproduction: August 2022

Sound recording (VoiceOver): September 2022

Final mix: September 2022

Color grading and mastering: September 2022

Distribution: October 2022

Production - filming on the ground, photos, interviews: $4000 (this includes filming equipment, cameraman + sound guy)

Local logistics and training: $3000

Postproduction - editing, sound design, VoiceOver, mix and mastering: $5000

French voiceover and overall localization: $2000

Basic Distribution: $1000

Total: $15000

Wada network of resources: Wada is a resource sharing network connecting people all over Africa and the Diaspora to IT, human, and financial resources to make dreams come true. We will leverage our network of graphic designers and marketing team to make sure this is a success. (wada.org)

Progress will be measured based on our timeline as outlined above. Deadlines are crucial in TV and film business, so we will be vigilant to keep to the timeline we have set for this project.

We can also measure progress via metrics such as:

  • youtube views/subscribers
  • website visits
  • social media engagement as we start to advertise this documentary

Distributing the documentary will be the main success for the project. That's the plan.

We can also mark several milestones to see the progress along the way.

1) Filming

2) Visual Postproduction

3) Audio Postproduction

4) Distribution

We'd like to keep the timeline described in the feasibility section above.

It's a new one.
