Supporting OpenLitterMap Events

Please describe your proposed solution.

We need support to run more community events to grow our community

How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

We will run open source hackathon events at Universities across the world and invite them to collaborate on the development of openlittermap

How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

Number of events and the impact they can make

eg number of participants, trash removed, data collected, ideas generated, open source PRs contributed, new direction for the future, continued use of our app

Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

Everything we do is open source. The results and details of these events will be included in our weekly updated and quarterly reports.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

Have been working on the development of open source plastic pollution research independently since 2008. Going to do this in the best way possible, with support from the catalyst community would be a huge benefit to the work.

What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

  1. Run more events
  2. Demonstrate the real-world impact of our app
  3. Grow a global community and normalise data collection

Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

  1. Run more events.

  2. We already run a lot of events but most of them are lost due to lack of ongoing community management.

  3. We will create more partnerships with various organisations and include them in the event management and participation to run community related initiatives.

  4. We will be able to showcase these results and encourage the continued use of our services.

  5. Demonstrate real world impact

  6. Work with community manager to include all details in the impact reports

  7. Community manager will be able to reach out and develop dialogue with various partners

  8. Community manager will have or develop the skills to turn our weekly report into a weekly video report

  9. Grow a global community

  10. This is a long-term goal, which will only be made possible by supporting the development of these intermediate steps. We have done a tonne of work on the research, development, and planning. Now we need to do a better job at facilitating and telling these stories of impact.

Please describe the deliverables, outputs and intended outcomes of each milestone.

We will run more events

First we will find more groups and partners who share an interest in a half day of community work

We will run an event with them, teaching how to use our app, and onboarding their feedback into our development process.

Every group and partnership we make, will encourage more people to get involved.

After the first few pilots, we will launch the LITTERWEEK campaign for schools and wider society with the movement created from these events.

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown of the proposed work and resources.

All of the money will be invested into the community to help them run events.

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Seán Lynch - 15 years development OpenLitterMap

Members from HOT OSM - The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap team are global leaders in pioneering data collection after natural disasters strike, are interested in using our app to run community-lead dumping and anti-social/problem area mapping events across Latin America this year. This proposal is designed to support them and others like them.

Pike in Malawi - Leads a team of 50+ local youth activists who clean up various parts of the community. Needs to be supported.

Many others like us who need help running events and building better software

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

Supporting the development of intergenerational open source digital public goods is excellent value for money as mitigating problems like plastic pollution costs exponentially more as it begins to fragment indefinitely.
