Solution

We will initiate research and experimentation of using on-chain metadata to pass emergent reputational value from different communities along a Space Train and publish a CIP to make it a standard.

Problem

The concept of preserving and transferring useful metadata between organizations is largely unexplored using blockchain. We lack standards for publishing emergent reputational value on-chain.

Space Trains and Metadata: Scaling our Communities of Trust

Please describe your proposed solution.

What we will do: We will research and experiment with transferring emergent reputational value between communities in the Cardano ecosystem and understand which points of metadata are crucial for the transitive passing of reputational trust between ecosystems. Taking this experimentation and research, we will draft a CIP proposal for the community to create a metadata standard for all communities to use to transfer reputational data between each other.

Community building and the shaping of collaborative spaces will be bridges that will link the needs of the real world with the technological offering of the blockchain industry. The blockchain, being essentially human technology, will extend into society by deepening its everyday life. Communities and collaboration will be the common language between these two worlds. The members of the Cardano ecosystem have created a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of community building and shaping collaborative spaces that can put it in a place of privilege. This knowledge and experience is what has given rise to recognized ecosystem organizations: Littlefish, Swarm, Cardano4Climate, Gimbalabs, WADA, Edify, D.CYPHER, among others, each developing their own models of open and self-directed participation and collaboration by individuals and inspiring people to take an active part in solving important problems.

Each of these organizations has reached a point of maturity where the internal energy they have created (thanks to their own scaffolding), needs to flow in an orderly fashion to organizations with a similar purpose of community building and shaping collaborative spaces that promote the resolution of important issues: climate change, equality, education, access to opportunity, sustainable development goals, among others. Such an exchange would potentially create powerful synergies that would contribute considerably to the evolution of the Blockchain industry and, consequently, directly impact Cardano's market share.

For the Cardano ecosystem, the time has come to explore the beneficial possibilities that can be generated by a network of organizations that have consistently demonstrated their expertise in community building and the construction of collaborative spaces. Being aware of the complexities that building a network that effectively exchanges value can have when we have built our own individual networks from scratch, we have come to the conclusion that truly novel and cutting-edge concepts must be implemented. Within the framework of evolutionary organizations, the following are the pieces we seek to interact:

  • Space Trains
  • Metadata On-Chain

We will also collaborate with and use the Andamio DAO Infrastructure as an initial platform for testing these ideas and publishing this metadata on-chain.

As a simple mental exercise, imagine a railway network composed of stations, of which the value that enters and leaves them is transported by the trains of the network, and whose infrastructure in general (stations, trains, tracks) is built on a reliable platform. Well, in our case:

  • Stations: community-building and collaborative space shaping organizations.
  • Value entering and leaving the stations: Metadata On-Chain (information)
  • Value transport medium: "Space Trains".
  • Infrastructure on which the network is supported: Andamio DAO Infrastructure by Gimbalabs

In this framework, the concept of "Space Trains" is what keeps the learning and collaboration relationships flowing between the various nodes of the network. It is what makes the energy produced by each of these nodes feed back into the flow produced by the network. It’s about the flow of emergent reputational value and transitive trust structures to allow people and value to move from one community to the next.

Let’s Talk About Space Trains

  • “Stacking Strangers” to scale has come at a price - we’ve lost our sense of meaning and belonging

  • Spaces are places where we can find greater meaning and community

  • Values-based metrics, not goal-oriented KPIs: Sources of meaning like honesty and courage are about process, whereas fears (like the fear of rejection) are about outcomes. Focus on the process.

  • Space Trains are a way to connect a “train” of spaces so value moves from space to space

See: Redesigning Society on Meaning.

How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

The process we are going through now will be relevant for individuals and companies around the world for their accounting reporting.

Likewise, the research that will be conducted and that will result in the development of a CIP proposal, will provide structure that will leverage the onboarding work that community-building organizations (Swarm, Cardano4Climate, Gimbalabs, among others) are executing, successfully bringing to the ecosystem important companies and real-world projects.

How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

We aim to demonstrate the project's positive impact on the Cardano ecosystem, fostering collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of value within a network of community-building organizations. While not limited to numerical performance indicators, we will employ both quantitative and qualitative measures to assess our success. We believe these measures are realistic in assessing the project's success and its contribution to Cardano's productivity and growth, both in the short and long term.

  • By illustrating the practical applications and benefits of the metadata standard, we aim to generate interest and support from the Cardano community.
  • Upon CIP approval, efforts will be made to integrate the proposed metadata standard into the Cardano ecosystem, leveraging the existing infrastructure and protocols.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

Participants in the execution of this proposal have years of experience in community building and facilitation of participative spaces, in addition to possessing the technical expertise necessary to successfully achieve the proposal's objectives. Their consistent work in the Cardano ecosystem has built a reputation for commitment and compliance.

What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

The main goals of this project are:

  1. To research and understand what metadata is important to transfer emergent reputational value from between spaces
  2. Use this metadata to experiment with creating on-chain Space Trains
  3. Create a Cardano Improvement Proposal to create a standard for this metadata so the entire community can create and use reputational metadata

We will have several points where we can check the feasibility of this initiative. During the research phase, we may find that true reputational value is not quantifiable, or breaks down when it is. We do not believe this is the case, and proving this will be the first goal of this experiment. Next, we will test the transfer of emergent reputational value between some existing “spaces” in the ecosystem. We have groups like Gimbalabs, SWARM, WADA, Decypher, and others that are excited to help and participate. We are planning to start testing using the Andamio platform as our initial tool to transfer metadata between spaces. We expect that other tooling will develop over time as well. Finally, we will create the CIP and get feedback from the community on the idea and incorporate a diverse set of needs and viewpoints.
