Solution

Integrate Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and Cardano technology into the existing beHub web application - allowing identity and credentials to be decentralised and portable.

Problem

Portability of trustable healthcare workers identity and learning/skill credentials.

[selfdriven|beHub] Revolutionising Frontline Healthcare with Cardano-Powered Self Sovereign Identity & Trust

Please describe your proposed solution

The proposed solution will build on the existing well-established beHub web app* that is currently being piloted by a number of significant healthcare networks in Australia.

The solution adds a "Web3" layer to the existing “Web2” application as an incremental step to becoming more decentralised by using SSI and Cardano technology.

Creating a hybrid “Web2/Web3” application as a pathway to a full “Web3” application.

It will use the existing selfdrivenOS SSI & Cardano enabled Operating System & Framework.

Ultimately all the assets with the beHub healthcare network will have representations that can be self-managed using the power of SSI, the Cardano network and associated technologies.

The outputs of this solution will be open-source and serve as education for the wider community as a worked-example of how to transition a “Web2” information network to a “Web3” based information and identity network.

*

> The beHub platform serves as a source of truth for clinicians, hospitals, and health departments, particularly in countries with limited healthcare infrastructure, like the Pacific Islands. By consolidating medical device information, product data, and clinical protocols into common protocol and supporting platform, beHub ensures that all healthcare providers can access the same accurate, up-to-date information. This reduces the risk of errors due to outdated or conflicting data, streamlines procurement and usage, and supports informed clinical decision-making.

>

> For clinicians, beHub offers access to product specifications, training materials, and technical support, enhancing their ability to deliver effective patient care. Hospitals benefit from improved efficiency and communication across departments, reducing delays and administrative burdens. Health departments can standardise medical device usage and protocols, ensuring consistency in care delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements.

>

> In short, beHub bridges information gaps and improves care outcomes by acting as a reliable, unified platform for medical device management, empowering healthcare systems in resource-limited settings to operate with the same accuracy and confidence as those in well-resourced countries.

Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

The project will have a number of positive impacts on the wide Cardano community, including:

  1. Show how a “Web2” application can be incrementally enhanced with “Web3” capabilities.
  2. Generate Cardano wallets and transactions (network activity)
  3. Education of healthcare workers, medical device manufacturers & hospital administrates about SSI & Cardano.
  4. A path for the healthcare workers to further explore the Cardano ecosystem including, DeFi, dGov and more - generating transactions and network activity.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

The selfdriven Foundation was founded in 2019 and the team is highly engaged within the Cardano community. It has a robust organisational structure.

Mark Byers (selfdriven Co-founder) is a qualified Engineer and has 30+ years experience delivering internet based high-grade solutions to market, including the vision to co-found the https://entityOS.cloud service in 2000.

Mark has been involved in the Cardano ecosystem since 2019 and has a strong technical understanding and involvement in community projects and presented at the Brisbane Cardano Summit 2022 as part of the selfdriven Project (https://selfdriven.foundation).

Mark is a founding member of the IntersectMBO Membership & Community Committee.

Bence Lukács (selfdriven Foundation Co-founder) is a former sports trainer and school teacher with 10+ years of experience in Digital Education, Higher Education Organisational Development and building open learning and collaboration (infra-)structure.

Bence also researches Blockchain through the lens of social sciences, focusing especially on Openness, Open Science and DeSci.

At the selfdriven Foundation he is the Organisational Lead, managing projects and organisational operations as well as supporting the development of the educational frameworks. He is engaged in the DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) Cardano Community and an IntersectMBO member, participating in the Decentralised Education, the Decentralised Trust & Identity SIG and (co-hosting & attending various) Constitutional Workshops.

Damian Noonan (selfdriven Foundation Co-Founder) has over 20 years experience delivering technology projects as part of strategic transformation initiatives, with expertise particularly Salesforce, MuleSoft and its emerging technologies. As co-founder of recently acquired Tquila ANZ, Damian has experience in building teams and delivering enterprise solutions.

Elizabeth Jones (beHub Co-Founder) brings over 30 years of experience in the health sector, transitioning from an ICU Nurse to key roles in sales and marketing for leading medical device companies. She has held national positions at Ramsay Health Care and ICU Medical, driving strategic growth and business development.

Now, as co-founder of beHub, she combines her strategic vision, entrepreneurial spirit, and deep industry knowledge to deliver innovative digital solutions for healthcare. Elizabeth holds a Master's in Management from MGSM and is recognised for her analytical skills, financial acumen, and ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Brian Halse (beHub Co-Founder) is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in both corporate and not-for-profit sectors, specialising in CEO and Chairman roles. His career highlights include leading transformative initiatives as Chairman of the NSW Deaf Society during its merger with Deaf Connect, and orchestrating the turnaround of a national industry registered training organisation, ChemCert Australia as its CEO.

Brian’s expertise lies in governance reforms, strategic partnerships, and driving organisational growth. He holds an Associate Degree in Horticulture, is a Fellow of the Institute of Leaders and Managers, and has been a dedicated member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors for over 20 years. His pragmatic leadership and communication skills have consistently delivered sustainable growth and enhanced the impact of the organisations he leads.

What are the key milestones you need to achieve in order to complete your project successfully?

Milestone 1: The planning of the project and establishment of a project management plan, including risk management.

Outputs:

  • Project Management Plan Document

Milestone 2: Design of the integration into the beHub web app.

Outputs:

  • App Design Document
  • Using selfdriven.id/ssi Identity & Trust framework - build “beHub SSI Governance Framework”

Milestone 3: Build | Use of the well-proven selfdrivenOS to integrate SSI & Cardano Technology into the beHub web application

Output:

  • System integration:

  • Healthcare workers will be automatically generated a shared-custody Cardano wallet.

  • Hospitals, Medical Device Manufacturers, Devices and Device Information are assigned “urn:” Decentralised IDs - anchored on Cardano.

  • Healthcare workers (Clinicians etc) are assigned “Ed25519-public-key|hash-blake2b” Decentralised IDs - anchored on Cardano.

  • Learning achievements generated within the beHub Webapp will be converted into SSI based Verifiable Credentials and anchored on Cardano.

  • User Experience/Interface Updates:

  • Healthcare workers being able to view & share their public DID on their “My Profile” page.

  • Healthcare workers will be able to view Verifiable Credentials and other assets stored in their Cardano wallet using the in app integrated Cardano wallet.

  • beHub API services:

  • Upgrade to support SSI related services as per the beHub SSI framework and DID Document format. E.g. service for current credential status checking.

Milestone 4: Pilot | Working with existing beHub customers:

Outputs:

  • Incorporate into the existing beHub pilot with Australia's largest state based health authority with approximately 130,000 healthcare workers and global medical device manufacturers.
