Proposal Translation with Human QA

## Detailed Plan

In Fund7 we were funded to audit a number of machine-learning-powered translation services, and we translated past catalyst proposal details: https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/383962.

This project proposes to expand upon this work and incentivize Cardanians from the Spanish-speaking community to audit and edit the machine translations.

During our testing from the previous fund we concluded that across the three languages heavily tested, Japanese, Spanish, and Chinese, the machine translation was about about 60% accurate and produced comprehensible translations every time.

We would like to get close to 100% with human editors and auditors.

We believe that more eyes can help audit funded proposals by providing the source content to non-English speaking cardano community members.

For this fund, we are iterating on the experiment only targeting one language, Spanish.

We have close connection with prominent Spanish educators in the space, some of which have voluntarily provided translations for the ADAO community.

LIDO Nation already has tool currently being developed to facility translation management on lidonation.com.

We will be using this tool to translation to allow our translators to see and edited already generated machine translations. Once edited, translations will be published to both the catalyst open API (https://github.com/Catalyst-API/catalyst-proposal-api) as well as lidonation catalyst proposal research tool. This will enable native Spanish speaker to perform rich search queries in Spanish!

## Why Spanish

We wanted to limit the scope of this experiment as much as possible. Since we already have relationships in the Spanish communities it makes sense to start with that language to reduce our overhead.

While all past proposals will be machine translated, we will only be editing and performing QA for the 266 winning proposals from fund 7. Once we've proven the process and have a good workflow, with community feedback we will move on to other languages and other funding rounds.

Challenge success metric: Several projects evaluating funded proposals, providing reports, articles and metrics on the development and implementation of the projects.

Opening up this raw data to the Spanish community will increase the the size of the hive mind thinking about evaluating and auditing funded proposals. We will also be providing these translations to the catalyst proposal API. This will empower developers and other bright minds in the Spanish community built auditing tools!

To be honest, this project is very low risk. Our team already has more than a year of experience working with translators on lidonation.com. We built and is currently in the process of deploying the open api for catalyst proposal data. We are developing and Dog-fooding the crowdsourcing translation manage system. The one unknown is if the incentive structure (hard earn ADA) we're providing is enough… Working with our partners and community members already translating content, we were able to settle at a fair market rate for the translation, then applied a 50% discount accounting for the machine translation. We've also budgeted in a small amount per translation to QA the QA (much like catalyst CA/VCA system). We feel confident about producing quality translations and completing the project!

3 Month Milestones:

- the translation management system is augmented to work with a larger group of people
- Have a good flow of translation and is translating 10 to 12 articles a week

5 Month Milestones:

- All 266 funded proposals from fund 7 is translated in Spanish
- translations is added the the catalyst open proposal API
- lidonation research tool is updated with translations

$11,970 –> 266 proposals * $45USD per translation.

$2,200 –> Technical support, publishing translation to api,

$3,500 –> Admininistration. Managing translation team, onboarding

$3,192 –> QA the QA - second level quality check at 266 proposals * 12 per proposal.

We are Cardano enthusiasts. With are a growing collective of dreamers who believe in providing insightful education about Cardano in plain English, Swahili, and Spanish. Most online blockchain content is written by and for developers and finance geeks. We break down complicated technical ideas for everyday people, and provide relevant news in quick bites, and build tools that everyone can use.

Our website is a resource for anyone who wants to learn what Cardano is, why they should care, and how they can participate. We want to make these resources accessible to as many people as possible.

Progress tracking for this project is quite easy and transparent:

--> All 266 funded proposals from fund 7 will be translated in Spanish

--> Translated Proposals will be published to the catalyst proposal open api

--> Translated Proposals will be published to the lidonation.com catalyst research tool

--> All 266 funded proposals from fund 7 will be translated in Spanish

--> The spanish community is able to get to native understanding of funded proposal and can participate in auding and hoding funded proposals accountable.
