Detailed Problem Description:
A community-driven project like Catalyst needs community organized events & meetings to connect ideas & initiatives, discuss & solve problems, & initiate collaboration. Without moderation, facilitation, coordination, & an action plan, energy & time is consumed by discussions without reaching a conclusion or direction for implementation.
Current & Proposed Solution:
Cardano4Climate has put on three major Sustainability events:
- Catalyst Sustainability Goals Event:
- Trees and Cardano event:
- Regenerative Agriculture and Cardano:
These events were well attended and brought together both external sustainability experts and projects, as well as Catalyst projects and groups working towards building a sustainable future.
This proposal proposes to continue to host monthly events and continue to drive value, connect the community, and provide an environment and space where we can work on the wicked problems of Climate Change and utilize Cardano blockchain technology to accelerate our impact.
All events will be planned with agendas, event slides, and recorded. Videos of the events will be posted on the Cardano4Climate YouTube channel:

By having thematic events we attract new members who are passionate about the subjects as well as having engagement from members already on board. The guiding questions for the challenge are all covered by the events so there is high alignment with the challenge.
Each event includes both external speakers as well as community speakers. The objective with the external spears is also to bring awareness to communities which are not yet on Catalyst. For example our guest speaker at the last event was Koen van Seijen from investinginregenerativeagriculture.com the founder of one of the most important podcasts promoting regenerative agriculture.
Each event also bring together an event team which include community members who are passionate about the ascertain subjects and creates engagements and participations by those members in the community activities.
Welcoming and inclusive event managers will help people who are new to Catalyst navigate the space through referalls to other established community members and relevant projects and communities.
Risk: Blockchain is a complicated topic to understand and not understanding the difference between proof of work and proof of stake blockchains can have a negative impact, especially when we speak at Climate-related conferences.
Mitigation: Sharing info and Education. We are working on educational materials and each conference will have a break room to answer questions for newcomers. Joining together around an impact event will help to reduce barriers
Risk: There are complex issues to solve for people with “boots on the ground” while blockchain and Cardano tech is still evolving and not proven
Mitigation: Connect the existing Cardano solutions with the people with boots on the ground. Encourage joint research and proof of concept opportunities through Catalyst.
Risk: The growth of the community can outstrip our ability to successfully facilitate events effectively
Mitigation: We will train and onboard more people that are able to do community management and meeting facilitation. We will seek to train within our existing community first and hope to draw more qualified people from other blockchain communities as well to fill these roles.
Risk: If not done well, there can be ineffective onboarding and missed opportunities to connect newcomers with the right community channels
Mitigation: Continue to promote coordination and sync within the community, Cardano projects IOG and CF, work closely with the emerging Cardano Impact Collective.
