Mission& Vision driven SPO Networks

 • Explore and document the concept of a network of mission-driven community pools as a united and cooperative organization.
 • Provide playbooks, mechanisms and support for other mission-driven stake pool networks so they can independently form and continue to add benefit and decentralization to the Catalyst ecosystem.

Early work on the creation of the network of Community Stakepools has already begun. See: https://cardano.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Ryuki-Funding/380968-48088

This proposal outlines the experimental development of a network of mission driven community stake pools for the purpose of supporting a holocratic grass-roots treasury.

Community projects can gain additional support by using stake pools to help fund a community treasury. This also helps to decentralize the network by creating new stake pools that are set up specifically to support mission-driven projects. By combining into a network of community pools, this network can mutually support each other, share best practices, and help to secure the Cardano network while providing a stream of revenue as an alternative to Catalyst funding for projects.

By creating a blueprint for the creation of mission-driven networks of projects, this will be just one of many stake pool networks that will form and further decentralize the Cardano network.

This network of stake pools will become an organization of community projects and each will contribute to and participate in the governance of a grass-roots treasury managed by holocratic principles (seeking consensus via representatives of the participant community projects).

Impact

By creating a network of stake pools and community projects mutually supporting one another, we achieve several positive impacts:

 • We help fund community projects with a revenue stream outside of Catalyst funding rounds
 • We run an experiment in mutual support and management of a community treasury
 • We discover how holocratic and decentralized governance can work in a grass-roots expression of solidarity and cooperation for the greater good of the community.

Feasibility

A prototype pool network is already up and running. Each project is on-board and in close communication with each other in this experiment. The community projects involved span the width and breadth of the Catalyst community. By keeping good documentation, creating governance playbooks, and agreed-upon parameters, this can be leveraged by other pool networks.

Auditability

This effort will be open-sourced. All records of projects, stake pools, delegation, rewards, and treasury disbursements will be tracked and audited. Pool network meetings and decisions on governance will be recorded and shared with the community. Github repositories will be used to share documentation and information that can continue to be updated and refined by the community.

Roadmap:

January

February

 • Begin talks with other community groups and share information to help accelerate other community pool networks.

March

 • Explore mechanisms for multi-pool delegation so ADA holders can delegate across multiple pools – even the entire community pool network – instead of creating many smaller wallets.

KPIs / OKRs:

 • Launch Ryuuki
 • Launch at least one other community pool network
 • Create documentation on Ryuuki as a prototype community pool network with key ideas, concepts, and mechanisms clearly described and open-sourced.
 • Create open-source playbook documentation for community pool networks to use to bootstrap additional pool networks.

Budget breakdown:

 • Creating documentation on the Community Pool Network concept and how they work. Open-source and publish on github: 20 hrs x $50/hr. - $1000
 • Create playbooks on setting up Community Pool Networks. 20 hrs x $50/hr. - $1000
 • Community development, coordination, Discord moderation, and project management for three months: 10 hrs/week * 12 weeks1 * $50/hr = $6000
 • Exploring partnerships and collaborations and expansion to additional pool networks, research into multi-pool delegation. 40hr x $50/hr - $2000
 • Technology expenses (github, domain name, website, etc.) - $500
