Solution

We will provide an easy to run docker solution so that users and developers can easily run their own full nodes and/or archive nodes

Problem

To ensure decentralization, we need to make it easy for users and developers to run full node and archive nodes of Milkomeda

Milkomeda docker fullnode setup

To ensure decentralization, we want to ensure many users run full nodes.

Additionally, developers often require access to either full nodes or archive nodes to power their dApps and projects.

By providing an easy-to-use docker setup, we will make sure users and developers can easily run their own nodes instead of depending on centralized services that host nodes for them. Easy of running a node also makes it easier for projects to onboard onto Milkomeda (and therefore Cardano)

This proposal adds an open-source tool that developers can use to easily deploy projects that use Milkomeda

The main risk is that people do not use this script and still end up relying on centralized services that run nodes for them. However, even if some projects end up running their own nodes, this is a win for decentralization.

We plan to release this scripts in Q2 2022

  • Writing the docker scripts $2500
  • Updating the scripts as Milkomeda evolves $5000
  • Support for companies using these scripts and need help integrating it into their stack $7500

dcSpark is one of the core contributors to Milkomeda and includes Rinor, an experience devops engineer who helped setup the devops experience for Milkomeda and previously worked for IOHK where he helped with the devops experience for Jormungandr.

Progress will be measured by both the launch of the scripts and how many devs we manage to onboard to using theses scripts (or variants of them)

Success looks like many projects and users running their own nodes instead of relying on centralized services
