Mentoring Africa to Success

PMM was first funded in F6 - Proposals Mentor Marketplace - and it's on track to deliver its first MVP in late March / early April.

The Platform aims to facilitates proposal creation, promotion and execution, by enabling proposers to find help among skilled members of the Cardano's community that are willing to mentor projects and proposers. Working towards the achievement of outstanding results, value and increase the chances of being funded.

A dual sided market platform was created to generate a Mentor Marketplace, where proposers can find, engage with or get matched to mentors.

Phase two of PMM that was funded in F7, aims to add extra functionality to the Proposal LifeCycle by adding Funded Proposals to the table, so mentors and taskers can help to build those proposals and deliver their Return On Intention.

This proposal is conceived to promote, recruit and onboard African Mentors and Proposers to produce rapid adoption and value to where it is needed most and as an strategic region in the world where Cardano can generate more impact and further fulfillment of our vision to reach 1 Billion people using our blockchain.

Focussing on Africa is a strategy that has often been promoted and is openly pursued by IOG and Charles Hoskinson. The ROI is likely to be high because community sponsored projects are better run in young and developing economies." Greg Bell; (originator of the Grow Cardano series).

So onboarding African Mentors, that will help African proposers via the PMM platform, will produce a structured way to multiply capabilities and value added projects, by leveraging mentors that understand Catalyst and understand Africa and are willing to help African proposers to create better proposals that produce impact, value and growth and that are more likely to be funded by the voters.

This proposal will directly contribute and is 100% aligned with the following Challenge KPIs:

  • Number of new African projects seeded in 2022
  • Proposals clearly demonstrate Cardano tech use-case solutions
  • Number of African developers onboarded in 2022

And will indirectly contribute to the following Challenge KPIs:

  • Local impact (measurable through user activity and reach)
  • Local partnerships formed (size of institution + influence)

Risk of not delivering: The building team, the management team are already working on the platform, so this risk is rather low or un-existing. But there is always the risk of delays due to technical or team issues. To mitigate this risk we are following an agile methodology based upon 10 days Sprints that help us to build in small iterations, detect problems faster and correct any deviation very quick. Also delivering in this fashion allows to validate hypothesis during the building phase so the expected value can be better assured.

Risk of not adoption: As any technology there is a risk that its users doesn't find the technology appealing or the experience is not strong enough to generate usage. To mitigate this risk we have had several Discovery Phases with our UX team interviewing and understanding real Catalyst people both on the mentor and proposer sides and generating enough insights to create the proper "user persona" that represents the needs the platform seeks to satisfy. We have also built a prototype with this insights to be able to validate the experience, before even started to build the platform. Our UX team keeps contributing during the development phase by validating the adherence to the experience and helping to correct any deviation.

Risk of not reaching out to the proper users: Even though PMM is aimed to the Catalyst community, our community is growing large, and the amount of projects and tools being delivered creates a challenge for any project to be known and publicized. To mitigate this risk we produced this proposal so we can formalize a plan, promotion activities, guided onboarding and usage facilitation in a targeted and managed way.

1) Planning, team setup & tooling phase - 1 week

Outcome:

  • Detailed plan with activities, dependencies and dates.
  • Discord Server created.
  • Team onboarded, timeline and milestones communicated, tasks and activities formalized and assigned

2) Execution - 2 months

Path 1: We will work closely with WADA team and SWARM to generate awareness, articulate actions with their guidance, and reach the community via their tools and events (Africa TH, Swarm Meetings, Discords, Telegram, etc)

Path 2: We will held two 2 hs, onboarding sessions, via zoom, promoted in advance with pre registration to recruit and onboard proposers and mentors.

Path3: We will provide 2 weekly, 1 hs slot, office hours during a month to coach and guide new members to the platform.

Via these actions we plan to onboard 15 mentors and 40 proposers by the end of the 3 month since start.

Lead, Support, Planning, team setup and Tooling:

2 months x 2 leads x 500 USD each = 2,000 USD

Onboarding guides and materials creation:

2 weeks writing x 2 writers x 20 USD/hour = 3,200 USD

3 days reviewing x 1 reviewer x 20 USD/hour = 480 USD

Onboarding sessions:

16 hs preparation

4 hs session hosting

2 hosts x 20 hs x 30 USD/Hour = 1,200 USD

Office hours:

2 hs per week x 4 weeks x 2 hosts x 30 USD/Hour = 480 USD

PM Coordination (30%) x 2 months x 1,000 per month = 2,000 USD

AIM Support and advisory: 500 USD

The Cardano AIM (Assembly of Inspired Masses) is a community guild of builders, creators and doers. They will be providing expert advisory, help to promote the tool and support to be able to better integrate our tool with the existing ecosystem.

Our definition of done, our Return on Intention of this specific project is to be able to introduce PMM to the African community, create awareness about Mentorship as a high value method to produce better proposals, with higher chances of being voted, realize on their promises and become successful projects.

By focusing on this specific community we will be able to help people that could benefit more out of this type of help, while creating a great experiment to learn more about what Proposers need most and which type of mentoring methods will help the most to satisfy those needs, so we can continue our iterations and efforts to create more value and impact to the Cardano ecosystem and all its receivers of value.

Yes, this proposal is part of the roadmap of Proposals Mentors Marketplace project.

F6: Proposals Mentors Marketplace ( <https://cardano.ideascale.com/a/dtd/369749-48088> ), F7: Proposals Mentors Marketplace -cont (<https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/382926>), F7: Easy Engagement - New members -AIM (<https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/381856>).
