Solution

Establish an independent translation body to quickly and efficiently process official Catalyst documentation and provide it to the Spanish and Portuguese speaking community without delay.

Problem

Access to Cardano for 600 million people is not improved if LATAM members in the Catalyst ecosystem are not well served with fast and reliable access to Catalyst documentation in their own language.

LATAM TRANSLATION HOUSE

Please describe your proposed solution.

The language barrier permeates every possible area of the Catalyst ecosystem. Misinformation inside and outside the ecosystem is a force that must constantly be battled, often fought to keep at bay. The Catalyst coordinating teams in all their forms already do a good job of providing the information necessary to feed the very purpose that unifies the efforts of the community as a single body. However, this information is issued in English and its translation into other languages is still a process that has not found an efficient way to develop: time and quality are two variables that must work in tandem for the information originating at the source to achieve its mission of unifying the community around a single message.

The ecosystem itself must create support organisms that systematically provide the backing that its processes require, especially in a region whose socio-economic conditions have the potential to offer Cardano a dynamic momentum of activity.

The LATAM translation group has been growing as an organization capable of contributing to the better performance of information as a resource that connects all members of the community, regardless of their linguistic origin. Its work translating official documentation of great importance to the ecosystem (guides, reports, surveys, etc) and delivering it to the Latin American community in coordination with the respected LATAM Cardano Community organization, has proven its ability to respond to the responsibilities entrusted to it.

In line with the decentralization and governance process of Project Catalyst, it is time to work in sync with the evolution of the ecosystem and create the pilot of a body that will be the bridge between IOG-Catalyst and Catalyst Latin America at the level of information flow. An organism that responds sensitively to the transmission of official information once it is issued by the English source: this organism should improve response times while maintaining the level of quality achieved so far.

The formation of a treasury, formed by the budget requested in the proposal and entered into the LATAM translation team's public wallet, will support the development of a process that will progressively improve by covering costs immediately and will deploy just as quickly the commitment to meet the translation of the moment.

Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

Guiding questions of the Challenge that answer our proposal:

 • How do we attract developers from outside of our current community to participate in Catalyst?
 • What do developers want, and how do they get it from the Cardano dev ecosystem?

When the Latin American development community has clear and timely information about the ecosystem, in their language, that supports their creative and innovative work, they can focus on the fundamentals of the business while making quick decisions based on the information received.

Potential direction of our proposal:

Support structures

Our proposal shares the vision of success of the Challenge Developer Ecosystem, given that developers in general will find their place in our ecosystem when the public in general and developers in particular can have clear and timely access to information related to the conditions, opportunities and prospects presented by the innovative and productive environment that is Catalyst. They can see themselves being part of our developer community when information in their own language describes to them the possibilities of a promising career.

What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

 • Budget depletion: we will do our best to put the budget received to the service of the Latin American community. Our main goal is to connect Catalyst's global community with Spanish-speaking members. In our mission, we will reduce our translation rates to the minimum necessary.

 • Control of the allocated budget: the wallet to which the budget of this proposal will be immediately deposited corresponds to the official wallet of the LATAM translation team. This is and will continue to be publicly controlled, therefore openly managed and its cash flow always visible to the community.

 • Excess funds: LATAM's translation team acquires the obligation to translate official documents from English to Spanish and Portuguese, with high quality standards, in the shortest possible time, until the allocated budget is exhausted.

Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Languages to be translated: English - Spanish, English - Portuguese

Projected project duration: 3 months (until the next fund)

Projected number of translated sheets to be produced each month: 220 sheets/month

Characteristics of each sheet: Arial 14, ~300 words per sheet

Total number of sheets expected to be translated during the whole project: 660 sheets

Note: the total number of translated sheets includes both Spanish and Portuguese translations.

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Cost per word translated (in any language) = $ 0.05 usd

Projected total number of sheets to be translated (the whole project) = 660 sheets

Approximate number of words per sheet = ~ 300 words per sheet

Total budget = 660 sheets x 300 words x ($0.05 usd/word) = $9900usd

Monthly budget assigned= $3300

Total project duration = 3 months

Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Cripto Hache. Planificador de eventos en Sheinix Academy.

Sebastian Pabon: Plutus Instructor at EBU of Luxembourg | PA, VPA, CT, Funded Proposer at Project Catalyst (Cardano community) | EMURGO Academy | Gimbalabs. Linkedin: <https://www.linkedin.com/in/ing-sebastian-pabon/>

If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Yes, we believe that creating an efficient bridge of information transmission between the global Catalyst community and the Spanish-speaking LATAM community is fundamental to strengthening Cardano's purpose as one of the industry's most important vehicles for innovation and creativity.

Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

One of the main control instruments of the project will be the flow of money in the translation team's wallet, a wallet to which Catalyst will enter the budget of this proposal and a wallet that will remain open to any coordinated and proper audit process.

We will also monitor the following KPIs:

 • Number of sheets translated into Spanish and Portuguese in the month / Total number of sheets projected for the month

 • Total budget spent in the month / Total budget assigned for the month

What does success for this project look like?

A Latin American community informed promptly and accurately, in your language, with the most relevant official content. A Latin American community of developers that can focus on the fundamentals of their business while having timely and quality information from the Catalyst ecosystem, in their language, that allows them to make quick management and strategic decisions.

A Latin American community informed with quality and promptness, in their own language.

Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

No. It's an entirely new proposal.
