Decentralized cinema festival where people buy an NFT ticket that gives them the right to vote for the winners and participate in the event

Problem

NFTs are too associated with digital images or worse scams. The NFT needs a new use case that can showcase its true potential.

Decentralized Cinema Festival

"The medium is the message." Marshall McLuhan

Blockchain technology and particularly the Cardano network have the potential to change the distribution of content. The best way to do so is by showcasing its capabilities by applying these new technologies to a concrete example.

We all are familiar with what a cinema festival is. They are often used by industries, nations, and private entities to attract people to a particular country or industry. The dFest would be carried out in a decentralized format.

  1. There would be an NFT ticket sale
  2. The tickets would allow people to participate in live chats while the dFest takes place
  3. Each ticket would be a vote for the best films shown
  4. There would be panels of industry experts discussing the films, but each would have a ticket to vote and no greater power
  5. The sale of tickets would be used to raise the prize money for the different categories.
  6. The films would be stored on a decentralized file system. Tentatively Airweave.

In principle, we would follow a very similar format to the A Failed Artist documentary:

<https://www.afailedartist.com/>

Only expanded to encompass a whole host of genres across several regions of the world.

a decentralized cinema festival is the perfect vehicle to showcase the power of Blockchain technology, NFT use cases, and the Cardano network. It will deliver in the following categories:

Increase the number of multimedia projects

Create a new novel multimedia platform

The decentralized festival will accept entire from all over increasing multilingual teams

Incentivize decentralized film crews

Create a series of decentralized news teams

Multiply the decentralized content creation by fil crews from many regions of the world.

The main risk would be a lack of project submissions in the form of films. To avoid this, as soon as possible the groundwork has to be laid where we contact film production, cultural offices of governments, and promote the dFest to everyone who wants to participate.

Cardano network congestion is another challenge. The Cardano blockchain is undergoing growing pains, and these will continue throughout the year. This makes minting NFTs sometimes a slow process that can lead to frustration, especially to those not familiar with the technology.

Here an ample window to sell the NFT tickets is needed. Plus education on what an NFT is and how the Cardano native token standard is different.

The NFT-DAO already possesses most of the technology required. At the moment we have online an NFT ticket marketplace that can be used to quickly mint new tickets:

<https://akkadia.io/>

The work that has gone into the Akaadia ticket sale involved the use of the Airweave protocol to store the actual image of the tickets. We have worked also in the creation of metadata standards for the Cardano blockchain:

<https://github.com/NFT-DAO/NFT-Metadata>

These standards were designed in collaboration with the Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation at the University of Wyoming. The resources are in place to bring this to a realization.

The first three months:

* Design the minting policy of the NFTs

* Set up a separate website for the dFest

* Create the initial marketing reach to independent film crews, universities, and cultural government entities

The next three months:

* Set up the sale of the NFTs using Akkadia

* Give a deadline for projects to sign up for the festival

* Onboard panelists to serve as commentators to the different dFest categories

The next three months:

* Release a smart contract that tracks the voting of the NFTs

* Announce the closing date to receive projects

* Announce the date of the dFest

Q4 of 2022:

The dFest will consist of 5 days in which all those that purchase a ticket will be able to see the films submitted. Interact with each other on a created space on Gather.town. A panel will be conducted each day for the different categories. All throughout the festival people will be able to see the films on demand and vote on the different categories.

Marketing for the tickets 10,000:

  • Create a marketing campaign

  • Localize in other languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese)

Airweave initial storage 10,000:

  • The Airweave platform requires the purchase of storage

UX/UI Design 10,000"

*The design of the front end of the platform allows voting.

Testing 5,000:

  • Testing the different parts

The most objective measure is the number of tickets sold as a percentage of the total. A batch of 7,000 tickets would be allocated for the event. The best-case scenario for the project is that all tickets are sold.

Second, is the number of project submissions to the event. As the idea is to show how blockchain technology and NFTs can work to create a new type of film festival. One that is decentralized, open, transparent, and fair. So, the measure would be the number of submitted films in total.

Here is the final report of the development if the Akkadia NFT marketplace: https://github.com/NFT-DAO/Akkadia

Finally, if all goes according to plan. The best measure of success is that there are enough resources and excitement to do a second iteration of the dFest next year.

For this anyone is welcome in the NFT-DAO to discuss the proposal on our Discord: https://discord.gg/AVJzsdaa5T

This is a new proposal.
