Solution

Cycling events tracked on Cardano with media attention and the local business community. Show that Cardano has GPS tracking capabilities and a gamified outdoor activities.

Problem

Cardano currently lacks DePIN applications, which are essential for bridging the gap between digital blockchain assets and real-world physical infrastructure. Crucial to expand beyond DeFi

Cycling - DePIN

Please describe your proposed solution

Summary:

 • Map out a route with GPS coordinates
 • Create a location-aware smart contract for each GPS coordinate
 • Lock NFTs and branded assets in the smart contracts
 • Get 50+ participants to download a Cardano app
 • Mass media attention and local business engaged

Why DePIN?

A DePIN cycling event leverages blockchain technology to coordinate physical resources and operations in a decentralized manner where participants can interact without needing a central authority to manage or control the system.

We aim to show that Cardano can be used to manage a cycling event from registering participants to tracking their progress to paying out prizes

Advantages of DePIN for a Cycling Event

 • Transparency - All event-related transactions and contributions are visible on the blockchain.
 • Incentivized Participation - Participants are incentivized through token rewards.
 • Decentralized Decision-Making - The event is governed in a way that empowers the community

1 - Decentralized Coordination of Resources

Instead of a centralized authority organizing the event, the blockchain technology is used to register participants, set up checkpoints, track progress and pay our prizes.

2 - Token Incentives for Participation

Participants in the event earn tokens based on their involvement. Cyclists earn tokens for completing checkpoints these tokens could be exchanged for goods, services, or access to future events. Tokenomics incentivizes decentralized participation, creating an open and permissionless event ecosystem.

3 - Smart Contracts for Event Operations

Smart contracts automate the even. They manage registration, allocate rewards, verify completion of stages and distribute prizes. When a cyclist reaches a particular checkpoint, a smart contract automatically verifies the achievement and releases a reward token to the participant.

4 - Technologies in DePIN Cycling Events

Cyclists use the mobile phone with GPS to track their performance, with blockchain verifying their progress and distributing rewards based on their data. The technology has been developed by Dynamic Strategies and available at https://cardanobeam.app

We are in touch with the local cycling community through a local pro triathlete who participated in last year's event and will create a buzz across his community for this year.

Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

We are aiming to attract 50 riders. Each one will have the option to purchase the event cycling jersey with Cardano written across it, which they will wear throughout the event.

This is a good branding opportunity and we will engage with colleagues from the Cardano Foundation to support our initiative with additional memorabilia and banners.

The event will be organized with the help of Xistarca, who also organises the Lisbon half marathon with thousands of participants. This event will showcase to their partners the advantages of using a blockchain solution like Cardano Beam to help them organise events.

The event is open to the community, and riders of all capabilities are welcome as long as they can demonstrate that they can ride the distance based on previous training logs.

This is a stand-alone idea.

The event will be open-source as much as an IRL event can be open-sourced. It will be open to all participants who can register on the Cardano Beam Event page https://cardanobeam.app/events , and the event will be tracked live on the Cardano Beam Web app for the community to follow the progress of their favourite riders: https://cardanobeam.app/web

The media recorded during the event will be shared on the Dynamic Strategies YouTube channel. And a blog outlining the logistics for the day will be made available here:

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

100% success rate in delivering on previously funded Catalyst proposal

The team has successfully delivered 3 previously funded Catalyst projects, and currently working on delivering 2 more proposals from fund 11

The event will be delivered by:

 • Dynamic Strategies <https://dynamicstrategies.io/> , who built and maintain the Cardano Beam app. Team members will participate in the tour and be present throughout the race to assist participants with any technical questions;

 • Powerlab <https://www.powerlab.pt/> , a Human performance laboratory headed by Tiago Encarnacao, who is also a local triathlete, will participate in the tour and be on hand to assist with bike set-ups ahead of the event and advise the organizer on the progress of the event;

 • Xistarca <https://xistarca.pt/> , is an event-organizing company that organizes the Lisbon half marathon and tens of races throughout the year will be responsible for the logistics of the water stations and the support vehicle.

The event will be transmitted live on the Cardano Beam platform at <https://cardanobeam.app/web> for everyone to follow online and drop additional prizes for participants to collect.

A similar event with 6 participants was run in October 2022 successfully. The route has been tested and works well for an intermediate cyclist.

The event's goal is to promote the use of Cardano to manage the logistics of outdoor events such as bike races and any other that require a finish line and/or checkpoints.

We want to show that it is possible to run a large-scale event and manage the logistics for participants for a fraction of the cost compared to traditional methods.

Adopting this technology will grow the ADA economy from new users and businesses.

What are the key milestones you need to achieve in order to complete your project successfully?

Milestone 1: Event planning complete

The event will start to be planned as soon as funding is complete with the intention to run the event in 3 months - this allows plenty of time for participants to add this to their calendar and book flights and accommodation.

 • The event NFT tickets have been minted and put up for sale on the Cardano Beam events page <https://cardanobeam.app/events>
 • Events company, Xistarca, has been engaged, the route and the timing of the event confirmed;
 • Participants who have shown interest have been informed of the time and date.

The event plan is delivered.

Milestone 2: Event Started

The start of the event will make the completion of this milestone.

At least 6 riders will need to start the event - force major for bad weather will be allowed which might require the event to be replanned for a later day - the start of the event will then be considered this later date

Starting the event means that the participants have arrived at the start line, turned on the Cardano Beam devices and collected at least one asset along the route.

This can be verifying by checking the timestamps of the wallets that bought the ticket NFT to the event and the asset(s) they collected on the event's day.

Final Milestone: Media material from the event created & distributed

 • Video and images from the event are used to create an appealing video report of the event that is shared with the Cardano community and media outlets
 • Media material is processed and published on social media accounts of Dynamic Strategies

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Xistarca (<https://xistarca.pt/>), an experienced event organizing company, will lead the event.

Dmitry Shibaev will provide technical support during the event:

 • 5 years in big tech, overseeing large-scale projects on the SAP system for energy companies in Southern Europe.
 • 15 years in financial markets at a global investment bank, leading projects and developing tools for capital management and trading positions.
 • Dmitry, an amateur cyclist, has successfully completed the event route in the past.

Logistics Expertise

Vlad Mikirtumov, who provided logistics support in our previous event and is familiar with the route, will once again contribute his expertise to ensure smooth logistics for this event.

Please provide a cost breakdown of the proposed work and resources

3 checkpoints along the route with snacks and refreshments at $5,000 per checkpoint = $15,000

Road assistance bus for the day with space for 25 places = $5,000

Checkpoints along the route with NFT prizes from the community at 10 checkpoints x 500 participants x $1 each = $5,000

Third-party Organization fee = $7,000

TOTAL USD: 32,000

ADA at $0.358

TOTAL ADA: 89,385

No dependencies.

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

The project will onboard new businesses and users into Cardano. Every new platform user gets a Cardano wallet that they can use with other Cardano apps.

The largest benefit is showcasing Cardano as a blockchain platform on which an app can be built that solves real-world use cases. Since the last bull market, blockchains and crypto have gained a reputation for peddling scams and worthless tokens. This is an opportunity to demonstrate that blockchains can be used in logistics and events.

We will demonstrate that the cost of organizing large events can be reduced by up to 10x by using a blockchain to administer the event.
