Solution

A community consensus list of courses, certificates, or exams with weightings as to how important they should be to a hiring manager.

Problem

Currently it’s hard to understand a developer’s Cardano skills without being a skilled developer yourself. We need a certification framework to lower barriers for businesses to hire teams.

Community Consensus Certifications

Please describe your proposed solution.

Build out a new part of the Antimo application to cover certifications. This would enabled educational, testing, and exam providers to list their courses etc. The community can then vote on courses and based on the users trust score it will show how high or low the course is thought of by the community.

This can also enable professionals to link these certs to their profiles.

Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

This will help new developers to the space to see which courses or certs are regarded highest in the community, helping to shape their learning journey.

This will help businesses wanting to hire Cardano developers to ensure they have adequately skilled professionals to do the work and follow best practices.

What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

Availability of education, certification, and testing providers. We would court all existing providers we can find but also look to convince more providers to offer Cardano focused services.

Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

3 Months

  • Certification voting framework built
  • Provider outreach program underway
  • Panel discussions on Certifications recorded broadcast to the community

6 Months

  • 10 cert like elements for voting

9 Months

  • 20 cert like elements for voting

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Because this is building on top of an existing project, the funds required are primarily to provide community outreach and build specific components.

Community outreach / management: 130 hours at $30ph - $3,900

Combined social media and real world advertising budget: $4,000 (specific value will be based on the costs at the time of ad space procurement)

Development: 40 hours at $40ph - $1,600

$9,500 budget total

Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Overall project management: Oliver Ross.

I am the:

Creator of https://antimo.io/

Creator of https://onchainuniversity.com/

Creator of https://wholegraintech.com/

Editor of https://medium.com/cardano-journal

Web developer on https://sealsociety.io/

I work with a range of other projects within the Cardano ecosystem, helping with web development, project management and technical advice.

I will hire a community manager from the Cardano ecosystem who has experience in building professional connections to assist with the outreach.

I will primarily build out the additional features, hiring help if needed for additional integration.

If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Not for this specific aspect. If there are further challenges we believe we can solve then potentially, but not to accomplish the goals set out above.

Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

The completion of goals as above will all be publicly visible on the platform.

What does success for this project look like?

The ideal future state is that when people are wondering about best practices for developer certs, there is an easy one stop destination for them to understand the skill sets required and find developers who hold them who are looking for work.

Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.
