Cardano's Footprint in Ethiopia

Recently I had a call with a group of people in the blockchain space, and almost all of them were aware of Cardano's flagship project. Even though most of them understood how influential the project is, they frequently asked me what it would solve for Ethiopia's education.

Often, I take time to explain what the project solves in a different approach. As an individual raised in Ethiopia, I have gone through the educational journey like everyone. Explaining how I was brought up in this journey gives listeners a pretty new and different perspective because when I share my story, not only do they know the solution now, they also understand and feel the problem.

So this was when I thought of a way to address as many audiences as possible through our documentaries. The documentaries will show the world what the normal education journey would look like as it will give everyone a brief understanding of the issue Cardano is solving.

This project aims to showcase (in the form of documentaries) the core problems or issues that Cardano blockchain is trying to solve in Ethiopia to the world. Cardano's flagship project addresses the core issue that everyone goes through in their education journey growing up in Ethiopia. This influential project can be documented in a video storytelling mode to inspire everyone worldwide and narrate the education journey of an average person in Ethiopia and how the project can make it better.

The challenges for this project could be:

  • The county's academic calendar timeline. After the pandemic happened, the academic calendar has been more fluid, which can affect our recording time of the documentary as we will be working with actual students from different levels or grades.
  • Delayed response from stakeholders. This project aims to work with the Ministry of Education, IOHK in Ethiopia, and all other stakeholders. So responding to our request and onboarding, these stakeholders could be a challenge.

There are three major national exams in Ethiopia for students before university. Each examination is a game-changer for everyone who goes through this educational journey. In addition, everyone goes through 12 grades and 3 years of kindergarten, which adds up to 15 years.

Following this, we aim to deliver 6 videos in 6 months 3 of them cover the main examinations and the other with real students we will be covering for the documentary.

Here are some of the tasks listed below, including their starting timeline:

Story flow and storyboard creation - May 5 - May 15

Scriptwriting - May 16 - May 25

Character selection - May 26 - June 5

Narrator selection - June 10

Location selection and approval - June 15

June 20 first episode recording begins. Most episodes will be recorded simultaneously except the ones that focus on the national examination, as we plan to have those precisely aligned with the academic calendar.

Editing videos - June 25

Account setup and uploading - June 30

Most of the tasks will be running simultaneously, but the maximum deadline is listed above.

Since this will be a 6 months project with somewhat repetitive tasks, most of the budget will be allocated to accommodate the collaborates listed below in USD.

Cameraman - 500

Cinematographers- 500

Equipment rent - 1000

Characters incentives -300

Narrator Incentive - 300

Video editor - 300

Travel expense to the selected locations (locations can be in different regions of the country) - 400

Extra logistics - 700

contingency - 1000

Currently, I have a collaborator who is technical on such matters as he is cinematography with years of experience. However, he hasn't been able to catch up faster to the catalyst community. This project is also a way to get him into the catalyst community more quickly. He and I have been working on different public companies and non-profits, creating documentaries, video ads, short screenplays, and many more.

Progress of this project is measured according to the timeline and number of videos listed as expected output.

The key measuring point is :

  • 6 videos in a 6-month course.
  • The first episode is to be uploaded on June 30.
