Solution

I will write an introduction to Cardano governance and invite co-authors to discuss more advanced topics such as quadratic voting, social choice theory, and theory on decentralization of governance.

Problem

There is little introduction literature on Cardano Governance. With the introduction of CIP 1694 governance and Catalyst testnets with treasury voting and management, this is a problem worth solving.

Cardano Governance book

Please describe your proposed solution.

The impact will be adoption and education about Cardano governance for newcomers to the ecosystem as well as those who have not had time to follow all the latest developments in governance. This will be done through 6 chapters on Cardano governance:

  1. The history of Cardano governance.
  2. Catalyst and treasury management development.
  3. CIP 1694 development.
  4. The various roles in the ecosystem (both catalyst and CIP 1694 governance).
  5. The constitution of Cardano.
  6. Governance comparison across the ecosystem.

How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

It addresses the open challenge by introducing the various elements of Cardano governance to newcomers to the ecosystem.

How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

By having done the research and published the following chapters :

If I have succeeded in these core tasks, the project will be successful. I have additional tasks of inviting co-authors to discuss other topics as well as an additional next step, but project success does not depend on this.

Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

The initial chapters will be made freely available on forums and websites in the Cardano ecosystem. I intend to try to recruit authors for a more advanced version of the book that will be published as an NFT book, but the chapters being founded by Catalyst should remain freely available as a standalone.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

I have hosted Cardano governance workshops as well as attended multiple myself and have a history in the Cardano ecosystem with Cardano governance since back in 2018. My background is a master's degree in Psychology as well as a master's in Law, and I believe this gives me the theoretical background to be able to present these topics to the ecosystem in an efficient way. This would be my first book, and there is risk in this as I have only written scientific papers previously as part of my two master's degrees. I will require support in editing and getting my material peer-reviewed, so some of my funds will go toward this. Even if it is my first book, I can assure the community I will not let them down and will finish this project, as Cardano governance is important and dear to me.

What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

Make an introduction to Cardano governance that also summarizes the history of Cardano governance and how we came to the point we are today. Chapters will be peer-reviewed.

Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Eystein Hansen - Project lead and author.

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

A comprehensive book on Cardano governance would provide a detailed and accessible resource for individuals interested in understanding the intricacies of governance within the ecosystem. This knowledge dissemination can help educate and empower the Cardano community, fostering a deeper understanding of the principles and processes behind decision-making, which can lead to more informed participation and engagement.

By documenting the history, development, and implementation of Cardano governance, the book can promote transparency and accountability within the ecosystem. It can serve as a reference point to understand the decision-making processes, the rationale behind certain choices, and the lessons learned from past experiences. This transparency enhances trust among community members and contributes to the long-term sustainability of the project.

As the book covers topics such as Catalyst and CIP 1694 development, it can raise awareness and understanding of these governance mechanisms. This increased knowledge can encourage greater participation and engagement in Catalyst funding rounds and CIP proposals, leading to more innovative projects and solutions being developed within the ecosystem. In turn, this can contribute to the growth and advancement of Cardano as a whole.

Publishing a book on Cardano governance demonstrates the ecosystem's commitment to thought leadership and its desire to share knowledge and insights with a broader audience. This can help position Cardano as a leading blockchain project in terms of governance innovation and best practices. It can attract attention from academics, researchers, and industry professionals, further enhancing the reputation and credibility of the Cardano ecosystem.

A well-written and comprehensive book on Cardano governance can have lasting value beyond the initial cost. It can serve as reference material for future generations, providing a historical account of the governance evolution within Cardano. As the ecosystem continues to grow and mature, the book can become a valuable resource for new community members, researchers, and analysts seeking to understand Cardano's governance journey.
