Cardano explorer improvements (Cexplorer.io)

Please describe your proposed solution.

Blockchain decentralization today is primarily measured by the number of pool operators. Let's be honest, if you can't get a good look at the blockchain and if there aren't enough usable explorers, the blockchain is actually centralized too. We've been supporting Cardano actually since its inception, we want to continue to do that and we don't want to slip into mandatory payments or anything like that. We want to provide not only explorer services, analytical data, but also education - publishing articles and educating delegators.

Cexplorer.io (former adapools.org) is OG Cardano explorer and with pooltool is there since first days of Incentivised Testnet for your service.

Running and developing an explorer, unless you want it to be full of banner ads, costs a huge amount of resources (anyone who has ever tried to run db-sync knows what we're talking about) - not to mention that you have to provide users with realtime data from such a database practically around the clock, you also have to develop and maintain the system to reflect various changes (e.g. some CIP) or new eras (future voltaire)

That's why we need help and community support. So that we can independently continue to operate, develop and maintain this OG project, which most cardano users are familiar with, and support diversity and decentralisation through operations.

How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

Cexplorer provides diversity between explorers, thus increasing the level of decentralization.

By being well-known, sophisticated and user-friendly, Cexplorer certainly gives Cardano itself a good advertisement. We firmly believe that it will help the incoming visitors to find their way around and guide them to the right decisions.

In general, any Cardano explorer is extremely useful and belongs to the basic equipment of any blockchain and deserves support.

How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

User feedback

Website availability

Average time on website, traffic

Readership of articles

Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

All will be shared instantly thus cexplorer.io and/or testnet pages like preprod.cexplorer.io

We communicate on periodical basis via Twitter, Telegram, Discord.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

We have been running our Explorer since the days of Incentivised Testnet, all the while being well known members of the Cardano community under the Cardanians roof.

We have long believed that Cardano is the future with its eutxo model and that is why we are trying to contribute in this way.

Watch out recent interview in Cardano 360:

What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

The goal is to provide services as before at least. To continue to develop and keep up with the evolution of blockchain, to be a daily helper for SPos and not only them. Voltaire governance full support.

Strengthen the degree of decentralisation by maintaining and developing another independent Cardano explorer.

We have designed the mylars in a fair way so that most of the funds will be sent only when we meet the Voltaire implementation.

Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

  • Maintenance 1 (development) for 12 months (1 month)
  • project management
  • development
  • devops
  • Voltaire on testnet env (2 months)
  • development, first kick of implementation
  • available on preview/preprod
  • Voltaire on production (2 months)
  • development, insights, analytics
  • available on mainnet
  • Voltaire education and marketing (1-2 months)
  • serie of a educational articles related to Voltaire
  • sharing with community via social media
  • Maintenance 2 (hw costs) for 12 months, final acceptance (1 month)
  • server costs, devops
  • final acceptance

Please describe the deliverables, outputs and intended outcomes of each milestone.

  • Maintenance 1
  • working explorer for 12 months
  • devops, maintenance, improvements, changes related to new versions of db-sync etc.
  • Voltaire
  • implementation of Voltaire features into website, analytics about Voltaire
  • Education and marketing
  • serie of a educational articles related to Voltaire
  • sharing with community via social media
  • Maintenance 2 (server costs), Final acceptance
  • cover server costs
  • working explorer
  • final acceptance

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown of the proposed work and resources.

  • Maintenance 1 (development) for 12 months (29,5%) = 58 600 ada
  • Voltaire on testnet env (30%) = 59 580 ada
  • Voltaire on production (10,3%) = 20 420 ada
  • Voltaire education and marketing (5%) = 10 000 ada
  • Maintenance 2 (hw costs), final acceptance for 12 months (25,1%) = 50 000 ada

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Lukas Barta - CEO

Josef Taborsky - PM, dev

Jaromir Tesar - analytics, marketing

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

We are probably asking for little compared to comparable projects, but we don't need more - we know we could have aws infrastructure for ten times the price, but why?

So, from our perspective - Given the size of the project requirements and the length of the support, the costs are expected and within the norm and fair to community.

Decentralization is the alpha and omega of blockchain. Few things are more valuable than diversification and diversity, especially when it comes to tools widely used by the community.
