Solution

Create a dashboard which displays informative KPIs involving how decentralized and autonomous an organization is through reading on chain data involving DAOs on Cardano.

Cardano DAO Dashboard

Please describe your proposed solution.

We are essentially building https://deepdao.io/organizations for Cardano and adding an index which measures how decentralized and autonomous an organization is by synthesizing relevant data points.

For each DAO operating on chain and the Cardano DAO ecosystem at a whole; we will measure:

  • Total Assets under management
  • Governance token holders
  • Active voters and proposal makers
  • Decisions
  • Votes
  • We will also have the capability and need to measure other metrics, but this is just an initial list. It might even be beneficial to use web2 APIs to gather further information on a DAOs operations.

We will then create a formula using these metrics and other metrics (Ideas below) to create a quantifiable metric that measures the decentralization ratio, automation index, and governance index. It is important to note that this is an early idea and we want to have community interaction, feedback, and participation when building this Index.

The list below is just some early ideas of things to think about in each category. We will continuously be iterating on this proposal to try to accomplish the goal of creating a metric that helps to provide a fair understanding of how decentralized and autonomous a DAO is.

Clarity Index

  • Decentralization ratio
  • Revenue distribution
  • More to come from upcoming IOG whitepaper
  • Distribution of ownership
  • Automation index
  • How much of your processes require manual intervention
  • How defined are the processes
  • How automated are the above processes
  • Are middle men needed?
  • Governance index
  • Proof of community
  • Level of activity
  • Individuals involved in pull requests
  • Diffusion of Activity
  • Governance token holder
  • Active voter and proposal makers
  • Decisions made
  • Votes cast

Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

This informative dashboard will increase the number of communities engaged and informed in collaboration using Cardano DAO tools.

This informative dashboard will help educate and thereby increase the amount of ADA coming from DAOs transaction fees.

This informative dashboard will help communicate the number of DAOs that use Cardano as a governance/management chain.

This informative Dashboard will bring a Cardano competitor to DAO information products that operate on Ethereum and other chains.

What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

Creating and connecting to the APIs to query the correct data on the chain

To mitigate this risk we are actively communicating with the Engineers of the Clarity Protocol who are contributing by creating APIs so anyone can access this on chain data.

Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Week 1-5: Planning and Research

In this phase we will plan on how we will gain access to the on chain data and begin to research

Week 5-10: API Integrations and Development and Front end Development

In this phase we will build out the visual dashboard to show this data in a desirable fashion to the end user.

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Research and planning

100 hours ($50 /hr)

The research and planning will be carried out by community members interested in contributing to the project. As of now the people interested in contributing are included in the team section in this proposal, but we want to grow this. We are allocating a large portion of this proposa’ls budget to incentivize community contributions.

API Integrations development

50 Hours (50 /hr)

This API integration will be carried out by either community contributors or the developers listed in the team section.

Front End Development

100 Hours (50 /hr)

This front end development will be carried out by either community contributors or the developers listed in the team section.

TOTAL: $12,500

Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Abhiroop: Abhi has been working in the IT industry for the last 16 years in various roles Customer Success, Product and Eng. Abhi has spent a lot of time helping customers integrate complex internal apps with SaaS apps like Instacart. He is currently working on another Fund 9 DAO called everCrypt.

Ben Hart: Ben Hart has been working across the software industry for 10 years as a manager and developer, and is the Director of Cardano Operations at MLabs. His past work has included bringing many software projects to market. He has worked across multiple blockchains, as well as in traditional finance applications.

Jack Hodgkinson: Jack is a software engineer with previous experience in the credit sector. He is delighted to be able to work with Haskell professionally and is excited to help contribute to the future of decentralized organizations through Clarity by extending his work on Agora which he has been a core developer of.

Ben Cross: Ben is a software engineer and haskell enthusiast. He has a particular interest in languages and enjoys learning both spoken and programming languages. Ben has worked on a number of widely varied projects with the common goal of innovation.

Mark Florrison: Mark is an entrepreneur and computer scientist. Mark dropped out of his PhD at Cambridge to form a series of startups until eventually founding MLabs, a Cardano and blockchain consulting company, which now has over 135 employees in over 30 countries. Mark has a background in compilers and is a Haskell enthusiast.

Logan Panchot: Logan is a recent graduate at Stanford University and has been part of the Catalyst community since fund4. Logan is a deep believer in the potential of decentralized organizations to create a better world. At Clarity, Logan is responsible for business operations, community growth, and client adoption.

Justin Schreiner: Justin has a background in Computer Science and is a Plutus Pioneer. At Clarity, Justin is responsible for business operations, talking with users, and implementing improvements to the platform.

If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Potentially, there may be iterations of this proposals that we want to build out and need catalyst funding for. :)

Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

KPIs to measure progress of the project:

  • Community members contributing to the project and index creation in a meaningful way
  • APIs integrated with
  • # of DAOs we collected data from
  • Dashboard Visits

What does success for this project look like?

  • Community members contributing to the project and index creation in a meaningful way
  • Months 1-3: 30 community members
  • Months 3-6: 60 community members
  • APIs integrated with
  • Months 1-3: 30 community members
  • Months 3-6: 60 community members
  • # of DAOs we collected data from
  • Months 1-3: 30 DAOs
  • Months 3-6: 100 DAOs
  • Dashboard Visits
  • Months 1-3: 200 Visits per month
  • Months 3-6: 1,000 Visits per month

Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

This is a proposal that builds on previously funded proposal to create a more comprehensive product suite for the ecosystem to leverage.
