Cardano Anti-Human Trafficking - BlockLiberate

Please describe your proposed solution

BlockLiberate is a digital initiative focused on the intersection of human trafficking and the use of blockchain and cryptocurrencies as tools to combat and raise awareness about this global crime.

Human trafficking, a crime that enslaves about 2.5 million people globally, annually generates about $32 billion. In Brazil, official records vastly underestimate the extent of this crime, with thousands of cases of sexual exploitation, forced labor, and unaccounted organ trafficking. This project utilizes Bitcoin to break the chains of human trafficking, offering educational resources, a transparent donation system, and an effective reporting channel. Through these tools, BlockLiberate not only increases awareness of these human rights violations but also promotes financial independence and victim recovery.

The portal aims to explore, educate, and empower through articles, translations into Portuguese, educational resources, and a cryptographic support network for organizations serving human trafficking victims in Brazil. BlockLiberate is inspired by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cryptocurrency Consortium, highlighting the relevance and need for collaborative actions in this field.

Objectives:

• Articles: Produce content on human trafficking, the intersection between cryptocurrency and human rights in the context of human trafficking, and educational content about crypto, focusing on Cardano, and its tools.

• Education and Awareness: Create and disseminate educational materials on human trafficking, digital security, Cardano, targeting a broad audience, from potential victims to legal professionals and the general public.

• Support for Victims with Crypto: Offer a secure way for the interested Cardano community to make donations directly to two recognized institutions that shelter human trafficking victims. Since donations will be made exclusively via crypto, there will be 100% transparency about the allocation of resources.

• Reporting Channel: The platform will offer a space to assist in the forwarding of complaints. Filing complaints is not an easy task in Brazil; they often get lost and take time to receive responses. We will help people who want to make complaints to direct them correctly and quickly.

• Network of Partnerships: Establish a network of partnerships with organizations fighting human trafficking, media outlets, and crypto projects to promote the use of Cardano against human trafficking, promoting freedom as this initiative does.

Implementation:

  1. Portal Development: Build a secure, accessible, and easy-to-navigate website that serves as the primary means of communication and resource for stakeholders.
  2. Educational Resources: Develop digital educational content, including guides, videos, and webinars, focused on preventing human trafficking and educating about Bitcoin and Cardano to promote freedom.
  3. Victim Support Fund: Publicize a crypto-based donation wallet to facilitate the secure and anonymous transfer of funds to victims and support organizations. Train organizations receiving donations on how to send, receive, and use Bitcoin and Cardano. Develop a transparency model on how the resources are utilized by the institutions to be published on the portal. Future perspective: form a DAO to manage these resources.

Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

The success of the project will bring value to the Cardano community by providing awareness and education about human trafficking and cryptocurrencies. Impact will be measured by metrics such as published articles, engagement, number of reports, donations, and feedback. Results will be shared through the website, social media, and community events.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

BlockLiberate has the capability to deliver the project with high levels of trust and accountability, as it directly addresses the issue of human trafficking, using Cardano to empower victims and promote transparency in donations to support organizations. Partnerships with institutions like Dignitate and Projeto Resgate Brasil demonstrate the project's viability and commitment. Additionally, we will implement transparent processes for proper fund management, including regular reporting on resource usage and external audits, ensuring reliability in financial management.

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Daniela Alves has been combating human trafficking since her twenties, starting with the creation of a dedicated blog on the subject in 2008 (blogdanielaalves.wordpress.com). Later, she expanded her efforts to her own domain, danielaalves.com.br, where she continued her work until 2022 http://web.archive.org/web/20240000000000*/danielaalves.com.br , when she had to cease activities due to other personal demands. During this period, Daniela assisted in making numerous reports, answered parents' questions, aided researchers and students with inquiries, participated in victim rescues, delivered international lectures, and was recognized with awards from the UN and the Brazilian Ministry of Justice for her work against organ trafficking. She also received the TOYP Brazil https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Outstanding_Young_Persons_of_the_World award for combating trafficking of women and children.

With a degree in International Relations, Daniela pursued a master's at the medical school of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul to engage in dialogue with medical professionals about human trafficking for organ extraction. During her master's, she worked at the Hospital de Clínicas in Porto Alegre, monitoring organ donation procedures nationwide.

Daniela delivers lectures on the topic in Brazil and abroad for various organizations.

Since 2021, Daniela has delved into the world of cryptocurrencies and Web3, becoming an enthusiast and scholar of emerging technologies in this field, with a special focus on Cardano and seeking to engage in the Brazilian community through both online and in-person events. She is currently a Community Advisor at Catalyst and a co-founder of the GovChainLab project, focusing on educational actions on the governance phase of Cardano, and was recently elected as a Drep Pioneer Leader.

Partnership establishment with NGOs Dignitate and Projeto Resgate Brasil, both aiding human trafficking victims. My project includes setting up a crypto donation fund for these entities. Conversations with the officials have begun, and they have shown interest in understanding blockchain technology, especially Cardano.

Jorgelina Burgos - founder and director of the NGO Dignitate, an organization that works in promoting and defending human dignity and combating human trafficking, modern slavery, abuse, and exploitation of adults and children, whether they are in Brazil or abroad. <http://www.dignitate.com.br/>

Marco Aurélio de Sousa - Executive Secretary of Projeto Resgate Brasil, an organization that assists people who have been trafficked, giving them due value and new perspectives in society. <https://projectrescue.ch/?lang=pt-br>

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

The cost of the project represents excellent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem, as it offers an innovative and comprehensive approach to combat human trafficking and raise awareness about cryptocurrencies. The costs have been carefully considered in relation to the scale and complexity of the proposed activities. For instance, the development of the portal and the production of educational content involve costs that reflect the design, functionalities, and quality needed to achieve the project's goals. Additionally, the investment in strategic partnerships with organizations that assist victims of human trafficking demonstrates efficient use of resources to maximize the project's impact. The justification of costs aligns with typical freelance rates in the industry and the country's average wage, ensuring that the project represents a solid and justified investment for the Cardano community.
