Accellerate ADA adoption: Pay academic fees in ADA at ISDR-GL/GOMA

Please describe your proposed solution.

The use of ADA, and the adoption of crypto in general can bring several benefits to students. We want to make a treasury avalable and build a portal to facilitate payments and motivate students by a return on their payments.

Here are a few reasons why students should consider adopting crypto:

 • Financial Inclusion: Cryptocurrencies like ADA can provide financial inclusion by

allowing students who may not have access to traditional banking services to

participate in the global financial system. This can open up opportunities for

students in underserved or remote areas.

 • Accessibility and Convenience: Using cryptocurrencies can make financial transactions quicker and more convenient. Students can send and receive funds easily, both domestically

and internationally, without the need for traditional intermediaries like

banks. This can be particularly beneficial for international students and those

studying abroad.

 • Lower Transaction Costs: Cryptocurrencies typically have lower transaction fees compared to

traditional banking systems. This can save students money when making payments

or transferring funds, especially for international transactions.

 • Learning Opportunities: Embracing cryptocurrencies provides students with an opportunity

to learn about blockchain technology, decentralized finance (DeFi), and the

underlying concepts of cryptocurrencies. This knowledge can be valuable in the

future as blockchain technology continues to grow and disrupt various

industries.

 • Potential Investment Opportunities: Cryptocurrencies have the potential for high

volatility and returns on investment. Students who choose to invest in

cryptocurrencies should do so responsibly and be aware of the risks involved.

It can be an avenue for students to learn about investing and gain exposure to

a rapidly evolving asset class

This project aims to stimulate the adoption of Ada among isdr gl students, some of whom already hold a few Ada. This project wants to show the usefulness of Ada which can be used to buy goods and services such as fiduciary currencies.

This project will impact thausands of students at isdr/gl, in the following ways :

 • Thousands of students will be introduced to ADA (some of them are ready holding some ADA) though an outreach session marketing the project.
 • A discount of 5% will be returned to motivate students to embrasse the Ada payment.

How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

It's stated in the challenge that "The more interesting and useful the products and integrations are in the ecosystem the more reasons people have to interact with the Cardano blockchain that can help further drive more adoption, feedback and further innovation"

This proposal seeks to drive Ada adoption amongst students in Goma/Dem. Rep. of Congo by building a portal to facilitate payment of academic fees in Ada.

It's expected to record +500 users for the first 5 Months after the project is achieved and +1000 in further 5months

How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

The success of this proposal will be measured by the following:

 • The code of the portal and the smart contract will be viewed on our Github
 • Number of wallets connected to the portal
 • Number of transactions recorded on the platform to pay the academic fees
 • Amount of Ada paid via the portal
 • Photos and videos of the outreach the program will be posted on our youtube
 • Testimonials of users

Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

Once the proposal is funded, all the steps will be shared with the community, the following will be shared with the community:

 • The development of the portatl and smart contract
 • The outreach session will be shared with the community
 • The number of connected wallets will be recorded and shared with the community

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

Goma Wada Hub:

 • Onboarding Program (Production of educational content on Cardano and Project Catalyst since 2020), Watch here.
 • Weekly meet-ups to promote Cardano and plan the hub's activities
 • Goma monthly since feb 2023, see here.
 • Regular Haskell and Plutus training since Sep 2020
 • Goma Cardano Stake Pool running in Goma
 • Hosting cardano summit 2021 and 2022, watch here.
 • 4 developpers and technical professional
 • Converting Ada to local currency
 • Plutus and Atala-Prism Project based learning, see it here.
 • See here our Fund 8 achieved project
 • and 2 other projects are ongoing

What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

The following Goals will be achieved:

The main goal for this project is to foster the Ada adoption by motivating students to pay academic fees in Ada and get back a discount on their payments.

Specific Goals:

Goal 1: Market the initiative to students : an outreach session will be held to introduce students to the project and let them know how this will be functioning.

Gaol 2: Implement a portal and smart contract to facilitate payments in Ada

Goal 3: Lauch payments in Ada, and further developments may be left by users feedback.

Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

As the University is already aware of this project, and we held discussions on how this will be implemented, the expected milestones are as follow:

Milestone 1: 3 months

 • Development of the portal and smart contract

Milestone 2: 1 month

 • Market the Project and build awareness about the functionalities
 • Testing the portal

Milestone 3: 2 months

 • Lauch the payments in Ada and give the return of 5% via the smart contract

Please describe the deliverables, outputs and intended outcomes of each milestone.

Deliverables

Milestone 1: A portal with a smart contract integrated will be ready to process the transctions and deliver the discount to users.

duration: 3 months

Milestone 2: Project anounced to students, with an outreach sessions to walk them in the partal and its fuctionalities.

Duration: 1 month

Milestone 3: Students start paying in Ada, and get the 5% discount for earlier users.

We expect

Expected duration: up to 2 Months. If the treasury is still available, students can continue to pay their academic fees using this portal after this period,

We expect students to keep using this even After the discount as they can easily purchase Ada at Goma wada Hub or other platforms gaining in time and energy instead of spending hours at banks to pay academic fees.

Please provide a detailed budget breakdown of the proposed work and resources.

The requested amount is

The breakdown is as follow:

Rate: 0.25

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

The costs are based on industry standards, the complexity of work, and local market rates, to provide a reasonable budget.

The project team is skilled and experienced with delivering catalyst project and building on Cardano, these reflect the costs in the budget.

Contingency Plan: We introduced a miscelous amount of 2000ADA particulary for such a payment project it's prudent to allocate a portion of the budget for contingency planning. Unforeseen events, such as changes in requirements, or fluctuation of Ada, delays, or unforeseen challenges, can impact the project's timeline and budget. Having a contingency fund provides a safety net, enabling us to address unexpected circumstances without hindering project progress or compromising quality of the outcomes.
