We have had two onboarding sessions so far. One of our session was a twitter space where we had 193 participants tune in from the Safe Moon community. We have from these two sessions been given some great feedback so we are restructuring the way we hold the onboarding sessions. We also have created two videos for these onboarding sessions so we are able to have a grater reach and provide the resources for members who can't make the meetups. This will also allow us to continue the onboarding past the 12 session we have suggested in the proposal.
The Cardano4Climate community has continued to operate using the Agile Scrum methodology to help focus on completing work in a specific timeframe. This shift continues to provide us with more motivation to deliver work in a timely manner, and the community is providing positive feedback on the change. As we continue to refine our methodology, the next steps will be to complete writing up our community collaboration standards on our website (https://www.cardano4climate.com) and share it with the community. The month of December has been a bit more slow than usual due to the delayed Fund 10 and holiday slowdown, but community events and meeting continue to happen through Dec. 21 (which is our Holiday Party!)
- We are completing the second of our sprint cycles that we are using to organize work. We use Dework for task management, and Discord for asynchronous communication around tasks, and Telegram channels for real-time communications between the team(s). We have done the usual retrospectives and sprint planning and are starting to get into a rhythm. However, the Cardano Summit disrupted our normal flow with much of the community traveling and participating in the Lausanne or local community summits for the past 2 weeks. We will continue with sprints, sprint planning, and using the methodology to build up a set of best practices and start to document what works well and what does not as part of this proposal.
- We continue to work on the community incentivization model, and it has been delayed due to Cardano Summit activities.
- We organized and put on an event at the Cardano Summit in Lausanne called "Impact as an Opportunity for Cardano". This was our main contribution to the summit along with a list of all the global community led events as a map of presentations and meetups happening around the world. As part of this event planning, we use an emergent flash mob of volunteers from around the world to produce the graphics, organize the speakers, provide venues for practice and feedback, and live stream and record the event. It was a very effective collaboration that we have now completed a retrospective and will be adding notes to our documentation on what went well and what can be improved for next time.

The project has two goals. To collect information and do research on the catalyst onboarding process. And, to develop a new model for community onboarding. In the last month, we focused on the ikigai model of onboarding in collaborative development with littlefish. Also, the monthly surveys and structured onboarding meetup facilitation plans are being reviewed and edited for implementation in Fund10. Additionally, a new leadership team is in place for the project.
We plan to help provide workshops and classes each week starting this wednesday and thursday. To help onboard new members to Cardano and Catalyst. We plan to be a pivoting support group that provides new members with the resources to properly navigate the space.
We will be creating an onboarding form to help best find the proper places in the ecosystem for these people. A welcome packet will accompany each member to help them
Feedback forms will be provided to each attendee.
In the past month, we have explored and worked on a number of things:
-
The use of Agile Sprints to provide cadence and predictability of deliverables and action. The C4C core team learned about Agile sprints and how they can be used to instill a cadence of delivery and action in the community. The team agreed to start experimenting with concepts like Spring planning, Story gathering, Daily standups, and Retrospectives as part of our operating model. We will document these practices and how best to use them for decentralized communities.
-
The use of Miro boards for organization (for Ikigai, Cardano Summit Planning, and exploring organizational methods and structures) continues, and has proven to be an invaluable tool for organization and brainstorming.
-
Exploring the use of Lunar sprint cycles to set up two week sprints that are tied to natural rhythms. Using the cycles of the moon to start and end sprints is a novel and interesting way to run sprints. There is a natural "progress bar" in the sky, and it will help us get back in touch with natural rhythms for our work.
-
Figuring out community collaboration and incentive standards for rewarding work done, recognizing community involvement, and creating fair and equitable methods of distributing funds. We are still looking at ways of distributing our Fund 8 funds to the community and are evolving systems of recognition and reward.
-
Using WordPress and CardanoPress as documentation and access mechanisms for the community. We have started looking at revamping our website: https://www.cardano4climate.com and using it as our community documentation hub.
C4C has several weekly meetings where we plan events, our weekly meetup, discuss community collaboration best practices, and work on a tokenomics project in collaboration with Gimbalabs.
Some highlights of things we've worked on:
-
we have been engaged in an Ikigai workshop with littlefish Foundation over the past three weeks to understand better the community roles and responsibilities that make C4C function. Ikigai is a Japanese word that translates loosely to "life purpose". We use tools and processes to understand our own Ikigai, which is where 1) what we are good at, 2) what we love to do, 3) what the world needs and 4) what we can be paid for overlap and create what we are calling Ikigai. We hope to allow people to see the engagement opportunities available better and match them with their Ikigai and the things the C4C community needs. Through this experiment, we hope to discover good tools and mechanisms that allow other communities and groups to outline their purpose and roles and help their members find their Ikigai. (see attached Miro screen shot)
-
We have started a project to re-vamp and relaunch the cardano4Climate.com website. We are discussing information architecture and how to use the website to better document and engage with the community, provide clearer onboarding instructions and opportunities for newcomers, and act as a single gateway to all things C4C to help people find the links and information that they need. (see attached Miro screenshot)
-
We have been actively exploring the use of Dework and Gimbals as a way of tracking action and incentivizing participation. We have been using Gimbals to track community meeting attendance and working closely with the treasury guild to streamline and document the process of automating Dework bounties and interface with the treasury guild payout mechanisms.
Cardano4Climate is the central hub for impact and purpose-driven members of Project Catalyst. In addition to weekly general membership meetings, core team, and working group meetings, we want to highlight several partnerships developed in the past month.
C4C is working with Gimbalabs to build the adoption of a native token, the Gimbal, and to build educational, project-based-learning material in support of hub activities.
We have continued to run an operational community hub helping provide support to the environmental, and social project looking to build around Cardano, or become apart of the ecosystem.
Our community hub has also put one the very first Impact Fest for fund 9 where we helped Project Catalyst Teams share their projects and upcoming proposals for voting. We provided a place for the community to come share and support one another. We also collaborated with many community groups and different weekly town hall to provide further mini impact fests for any project who couldnt make out first meeting!
The C4C continues to be an on-ramp for environmentalist, activist and technologist to the Blockchain, Cardano and Catalyst community. This proposal has funded 3 monthly events on June 2nd, July 28th and August 11th. It's worth noting that our last event - ImpactFest was extremely well attended and, with the extended time for voting, spawned 7 further events in the same style and intent. We called them Mini ImpactFest.
Our intention is to keep the team together for further event planning activities and to standardize the model by producing supporting material for future event planning for everyone.
The main focus on the last few months were how to integrate IKIGAI - littlefish project into the onboarding process. This took a lot of time an ongoing meetings with the Littlefish team to best design the process. This process is highly connected to the proposal and we will make an alignment between the proposal model and the IKIGAI model implimentation
The sustainability events brought many new members to the community this month. Our weekly events are open and focused on welcoming new members and getting them to 'meaningful participation'. Additionally, we are focused and making progress on onboarding new members from the Eastern hemisphere and who speak languages other than English.
Our last event, ImpactFest on August 11th, successfully strengthened the impact-related community of Cardano and Project Catalyst. We had over one hundred attendees and over 35 support staff - plus over 50 proposal presentations. I believe the connections and collaborations begun here will make a lasting impact on our community. For instance, we are now seeing the benefit of working with partners in non-English speaking regions and in eastern timezones.
We continue to host one community event per week, and at least three other core team working sessions during the week to keep our various projects and communities on-track. On Mondays we do event planning, on Tuesdays we have a working session, on Wednesdays we host our weekly community meet up, and on Friday we have.a working session on tokenomics, bounties, and financial accounting. These meetings, our Discord server, and Telegram channels (4 active ones!) keep us organized.
This past month, the big project was ImpactFest. This was a community event to bring awareness to all the wonderful Impact-related proposals in Catalyst Fund 9 and give the proposers a chance to present their ideas, connect with one another, and answer questions for the community. This event happened across one big event on August 11, and across multiple regional Town Halls and other venues.
We are a bit slower this past month as people are taking vacations, but the community continues to move forward. Most notably, we held ImpactFest and this resulted in a lot of good best practices and lessons learned. We are in the process of updating documents and playbooks for events based on our reflection and feedback on how the event went. We continue to meet as a core working group at least three times a week to work on events, community management, and the Gimbalabs token PBL.
We continue to onboard new members thru weekly and monthly events. We have Four meetings each week and one large meeting / conference each month. The two monthly conferences planned are "Carbon and Cardano" on July28th and "ImpactFest" on August 11.
This month has been busy with supporting proposal writing and collecting proposal directly and indirectly related to environmental and social impact. One particular highlight was the collaboration and coordination with Darlington of Lidonation, who incorporated the C4C impact proposal list into the Lidonation voter tool. This is an example of a valuable community tool constructed as a direct result of C4C community effort.
We continue to on-board new members into Catalyst with our weekly meetups.
In addition to our typical work, we prepared a list of impact-related, Fund9 proposal and promoted in with the Catalyst community. We are starting two new hubs as proposals in Fund9, one in Asia and one in Africa.
We are staring collection fund 9 impact proposals as well identifiying newcomers as well as offering a space for newcomers in our weekly meet-ups on Wednesday 3pm UTC. We will have a dedicate survey as well as starting to analyse the information in the weeks to come.
Cardano4Climate is the central hub for impact and purpose driven members of Project Catalyst. In addition to weekly general membership meetings, core team and working group meetings, we want to highlight several partnerships developing in the past month.
C4C is working with Gimbalabs to build adoption of a native token, the Gimbal, and to build educational, project-based-learning material in support of hub activities.
Ikigai is a concept to refine and align the purpose of an individual or group. This concept is championed by the Littlefish Foundation and is being adopted by C4C. It's a way to encourage meaningful and effective participation within the hub and beyond.
OpenLitterMap and LitterCoin, regardless of being skipped over for funding in fund8, continue to represent Cardano, Project Catalyst and Cardano in many channels. For instance, OpenLitterMap was included in a registry of digital public good by a multi-stakeholder consortium endorsed by the UN Secretary General.
Cardano4Climate encourages new member onboarding with a series of weekly and monthly events. These events are well attended by the existing project catalyst community and also new members from outside of the community.
One idea to share is the cadence of events over the three-month series. The first event, which took place on June 2nd, targeted new members external to PC (Project Catalyst). The second event scheduled for July 21st focuses on an impact theme, 'Carbon', and connects people who are interested, concerned, or passionate about the topic. The 3rd event, called ImpactFest, educates voters about the many impact-driven proposals campaigning in Fund9.
The aim is to facilitate meaningful participation at all levels and roles in Catalyst. And, we feel a delightful synergy is created by this three-phase approach.
Cardano4Climate has started experimenting with both Dework bounties as well as looking at rewarding Gimbals for community participation. We are also starting up as a Littlefish Colony and using Littlefish actions along side bounties. Most of our work so far in this proposal is around community incentivization and translating playbooks into Dework bounties. We are also creating playbooks and checklists for putting on events as we continue with our monthly event cadence.

As the community work is very intensive some areas of work are being done more intensively and some less. For example, supporting projects like apocalypsea or littlefish takes a lot of focus, while translations of C4C materials are slower to be implemented. This is part of the prioritization, workload and dynamics of the community. check out also the recording of C4C 4th event Cardano & Plastic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp3UERjftG8
Weekly meetings is ongoing supporting and growing the community. Next monthly event is on April 21st. Cardano & Plastic: https://www.meetup.com/Cardano-Catalyst-Community-Network/events/285239305/
